San Diego Wedding Videographer Creates Epic Same-Day Edit for Sky Ceremony at Hangar 858

As a San Diego wedding videographer, one of my favorite challenges is creating a same-day edit — a cinematic highlight film that’s shot, edited, and delivered on the actual wedding day. And this wedding? It was anything but ordinary.

This adventurous couple chose to get married inside a flying airplane, taking off from Hangar 858 and exchanging vows high above the San Diego skyline. The best part? I filmed the ceremony in the plane — then rushed back to create a same-day wedding film that was shown to their guests just hours later.

A Ceremony Literally in the Sky

With the city below and clouds around them, they spoke timeless vows:

Darth Vader Officiant Steals the Show

The only other person in the plane besides me?Their officiant — fully dressed as Darth Vader.

He jokingly declared:

“You are now bound by the Force forever…”

The bride laughed and said:

“This is so insane. I can’t believe we got married in the sky.”

That genuine reaction made it into the same-day edit, and the room erupted when guests saw it later that night.

Personalized Vows with a Star Wars Twist

Marlene repeated after the officiant:

“John, you are my beloved.I promise before God and these witnessesto be loving and faithful to you…”

Then came the perfect personal touch:

“You shall be my Anakin Skywalker.”
