As a San Diego wedding videographer, I’ve filmed many incredible love stories — but this one truly took things to new heights. Literally.

This adventurous couple chose to exchange their vows inside a flying airplane after hosting their celebration at Hangar 858, one of San Diego’s most unique wedding venues. What made this ceremony even more unforgettable? They flew the plane themselves. And yes — I was right there in the aircraft filming every emotional second.

A Wedding Ceremony in the Sky

With the San Diego skyline stretching endlessly below, the couple recited their vows while soaring through the air. Their words were heartfelt, timeless, and deeply meaningful:

“In plenty and in want. In joy and in sorrow.In sickness and in health.As long as we both shall live…You are my destiny.”

There’s something incredibly powerful about hearing those promises spoken while flying above the city. The setting amplified every word, making the moment feel cinematic and surreal.

Darth Vader Officiant Adds Fun Personality

The only other person in the plane — aside from myself filming — was their officiant dressed as Darth Vader. It added the perfect mix of humor and personality to the ceremony.

At one point, the officiant playfully declared:

“You are now bound by the Force forever…”

The bride laughed and said:

“This is so insane. I can’t believe we got married in the sky. So cool.”

During the ceremony, Marlene repeated after the officiant:

“John, you are my beloved.I promise before God and these witnessesto be loving and faithful to youin plenty and in want,in joy and in sorrow,in sickness and in health,as long as we both shall live…”

“You shall be my Anakin Skywalker.”
